LIMESTONE, Maine — Limestone Community School held its winter sports awards for middle level and high school Feb. 23, 2016 in the LCS Auditorium.
Members of the Nordic ski team from LCS, Dustin Wallace and Tommy Pinette, were recognized by MSSM ski coach Kirk Cote.
The girls’ middle level basketball team, under first-year coach Bob Hancock, was honored. Team members were Taylor LaBreck, Shaelynn Becker, Kourtney West, Kennedy Bencivenga, Taylor Wallace, Paige Hale, Sierra Beaulieu, Aida Smith and Isabelle Levesque. Individual award winners were: West, Coach’s Award; Wallace, Most Improved Player; and LaBreck, Most Valuable Player.
First-year boys coach Paul West congratulated members of the middle level boys’ team on their season. Players recognized for their efforts were: Ioan Smith, Braydon Martin, Thomas Bates, Brian Connell, Kobe West, Barry Tucker, Gunner Hatfield, Jacob Hancock, Carsen Poitras, and Simon Hotelling. Smith was given the Coach’s Award, Poitras was chosen as Most Improved and West was the named the team’s Most Valuable Player.
Bethany Millette was recognized for her work as manager for both the boys’ and girls’ middle level teams.
Junior varsity teams made a return this season and giirls’ JV coach Paul West presented awards to the following players: Karoline Dillenbeck, Coach’s Award; Stephenie Bragg, Most Improved Player; and Megan Tucker, Most Valuable.
Coach Becky West of the LCS/MSSM girls’ varsity basketball team also recognized members of her team. Senior players recognized were Jackie Peers, Kassee Albert, Francesca Armstrong, Madeline Williams, Jessica Lindsay, Jessica Tucker, Leah Kihn and Sarah Hemphill. Juniors on the squad were Briannah Becker, Sierra Dann, Emma Vannorsdall and Delaney Rossignol. Sophomores Stephenie Bragg and Victoria Moore and freshmen Megan Tucker, Amelia Roy, Karoline Dillenbeck and Annette Mubang were also cited. Rebecca Dillenbeck served as manager for both the varsity and JV teams. Jessica Lindsay was chosen Most Improved Player, while Kassee Albert and Jackie Peers were selected as co-Most Valuable Players.
The boys’ junior varsity team was headed by first-year coach, Chelsea Leighton. Players recognized for their play this season included Sean Hale, Trevor Hale, David Tucker, Willie McGirt, Karson Albert, Andrew DeChaine, Alec Comeau and Matt Martin. Trevor Hale was selected Most Improved Player and Andrew DeChaine and Willie McGirt shared the Coach’s Award.
First-year coach Brian Massey closed the ceremony by recognizing the members of the boys’ varsity basketball team. Senior players honored were Dalton Canonico, Bret Morgan, Gordon McCulloh, Justin Hamilton and Thomas Dolloff. Victor Negron, Travis Hatfield and Andrew DeChaine were the juniors on the team. Other members recognized were sophomore Alex Sprague and freshmen Mason Patten, Matt Martin, Karson Albert and Patrick Flanigan. Mason Patten was selected as the Most Improved Player, Dalton Canonico and Travis Hatfield were co-Coach’s Award recipients and Alex Sprague was selected as Most Valuable Player.
