Thursdays on Sweden dates announced
CARIBOU, Maine — 2016 will mark the fourth year of Thursdays on Sweden, a local event where people can enjoy live music, food, and services from a number of local vendors on Sweden Street in downtown Caribou. The event will last from June to August, and takes place on seven Thursdays throughout those months. Each day is set to have a unique theme.
Thursdays will start on June 2nd, with a “Summer Kickoff” theme and a performance by the Mallett Brothers.
The June 16 event has a “Halloween in June” theme where attendants can dress up and watch a musical performance from the Ghost of Paul Revere.
Music-X-Press will be performing on June 30, where the theme is “Reunion Night.” According to Caribou Marketing and Events Coordinator Lydia Kieffer, eight different classes are set to meet up for the event, with graduating dates ranging from 1956 to 2011.
A water slide will be set up for the July 14 “Beach Night” event, which will feature music from Dominic and the Lucid.
Sweden Street will host performances by Mad Science and the Rock Dox on the July 28 “Sci Fi Night” event.
Members of the popular reality show North Woods Law will make an appearance for the Aug. 11 “Night With the Stars” event, and the band French Toast will perform.
The final night of the event will be on August 25th and feature a disco theme with a performance from Motor Booty Affair.
According to Kieffer, last year’s events had over 86 vendors participating in the festivities. Kieffer is hoping to increase that number for 2016.
“Quite a bit of preparation has gone into the event so far,” said Kieffer. “We’re working with bands, talking to other city departments about themes, and local restaurants about beer gardens.”
Like the last three events, this year’s Thursdays on Sweden will be funded by a variety of local sponsors. A portion of revenue from the Caribou Marathon will also contribute to the costs.”
Anyone interested in being a vendor for Thursdays on Sweden can do so for free by going to the Caribou Recreation Department and signing up.
