Recognition honors hospitals deemed best places to have a baby
CARIBOU, Maine — Cary Medical Center has received the 2016 Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics.
This evidence-based designation is the only award that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and what women say they want from a hospital. The Caribou hospital also received the award in 2013 and 2015.
The list of over 400 award winners, including Cary Medical Center, represents hospitals that offer exceptional obstetric services which ranked above the national average for patient safety, thereby supporting a woman’s decision when choosing the best for her maternity needs.
“We are so proud and honored that our hospital has been recognized by Women Certified as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience in Obstetrics for a third year,” said Cary CEO Kris Doody, RN. “Cary Medical Center and Pines Health Services have a long tradition of excellence in Obstetric Care. This recognition is further evidence that women in Aroostook County appreciate the high level of clinical quality, compassionate and personal, patient-centered care, that our staff provides.”
Staff from the Maternal and Child Unit at Cary, as well as from Pines Obstetrics, were recognized at a luncheon held in their honor on April 5. Each of the staff received a unique lapel pin featuring the award recognition and were urged by hospital officials to “wear them with pride as a daily reminder that your contribution is valued and that you are part of a team of professionals who are committed to providing the highest level of service and support that women love, trust and would highly recommend to others.”
Jim Davis, CEO at Pines Health Services, said the collaboration between the two organizations is something quite unique and special.
“We now have women coming to Pines and Cary from all over Aroostook County,” said Davis. “We hear a lot about how the two staffs coordinate so well and understand the needs of the families, including the expecting dad and siblings. We really have something quite special that creates that ‘wow’ experience for new moms and their families.”
Doody noted making every delivery unique and personal is key to the hospital’s success. “Our team of physicians, nurses and support staff all work cohesively together to completely focus on providing our moms, her newborn, and family, with that extra attention and personalized care that they’ll always remember as being part of this very special time in their lives.
“Our moms tell us that from the moment they visit our Maternal/Child Services, they feel how professional and caring the staff are, and that they feel right at home and are part of our Cary and Pines Families,” said Doody.
Cary has seen dramatic growth in the number of deliveries in recent years. In 2012 the hospital experienced the largest number of births in 17 years, and for each of the past four years Cary has experienced over 200 births.
“New moms have many choices when it comes to having their baby, so choosing the best birthing experience is right up there with choosing the best doctor. We’ve made it easy for moms to vet out the hospitals proven to deliver an outstanding experience,” said Delia Passi, CEO and Founder of the Women’s Choice Award.
The America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics scoring process is unique in that it is the only national list that is evidence-based and focuses on female patient satisfaction. Awarded hospitals ranked above the national average for patient recommendations, as indicated by the data reported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
