Grange meets despite weather — Aroostook County Famous Grange met with Westfield Grange Saturday, April 8, with a good attendance considering the bad roads. About 125 came together in the morning with considerably more in the afternoon.
Of great interest — It is a matter of much interest to find out how the Presque Isle-to-Caribou gravel road, built last year by the state, is going to stand up under the conditions which weather and the wear and tear of traffic will subject it to. If it does, it will be of an example for other roads in the town.
75 Years Ago — April 10, 1941
Third C.A.A. opens — Caribou’s third C.A.A. non-college flight training ground school under the sponsorship of the Caribou Chamber of Commerce started here Monday night with an enrollment of 37 students. Classes are held three nights weekly at the Caribou High School until a total of 72 hours is completed in various subjects.
Fire Department answers three — Three different alarms for fires were answered this past week by the Caribou Fire Department, two in Caribou and the other in New Sweden. The total damage of the three conflagrations was estimated at $11,000.
50 Years Ago — April 13, 1966
Delegates — Four junior girls of Caribou High School have been chosen as delegates to Dirigo Girls State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary to be held at Colby College June 18-24. Mrs. Sylvia Disy is chairman of local arrangements through the Henry B. Pratt, Jr. Auxiliary.
Chamber vacancy — Graydon Mahoney has been named to the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce to complete the unexpired term of Robert McCarthy, Wilfred Bell, president of the chamber, announced today.
25 Years Ago — April 10, 1991
New museum director — The board of trustees of the Nylander Museum in Caribou announced the resignation of director Gege Schwab and the hiring of Jeremiah Leary as the new director. Leary is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York with a major in experimental psychology. He has lived in Aroostook County for 18 years and worked primarily in education and social services.
Accepting award — Limestone Junior/Senior High School teacher Pamela Rolfe accepted the 1990 National Educator Award from Eve Bither, Commissioner of Education, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, March 23. The award was presented to honor outstanding elementary, middle and high school educators from participating states.
