Six Owl basketball players
gain post-season awards
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Three University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball players and three women’s players were honored by the Association of Division III Independents, as the AD3I All-Independent Teams were recently announced. Chase Vicaire and Kevin Collins were named Second Team All-Independent, while Maurice Harris was named to the Third Team All-Independent.
The Owls lone senior this season was Vicaire, a guard from Mattawamkeag. He reached a personal milestone this season, eclipsing the 1,000 point mark and ended his career with 1,116 points. For the second year in a row, Vicaire led the Owls in scoring (372 points), averaging 14.3 ppg. He also led the team in three-point field goal percentage (39.4 percent), was second in assists per game (2.3) and second in steals per game (1.5).
Collins, a sophomore from Fort Washington, Md., ended the season second in scoring average with 11.6 points per game (266 points). The guard was tied for third on the team in steals, averaging 1.2 a game, and ended the season with 1.6 assists per game.
Harris, a sophomore forward from Miami, Fla., led the team in rebounding (134), averaging 5.4 a game. He was also third on the team in scoring (252 points), tallying 10.1 points per game. He was also second on the team in three-point field goal percentage (38.3 percent) and blocked 22 shots this season.
For the women, Amanda Hotham garnered First Team All-Independent honors, while Sydney Churchill and Brianna Losee were both named to the Second Team All-Independent.
A junior from Fort Fairfield, Hotham led the Owls in scoring this season, averaging 12.7 points per game (228 points overall). Despite missing games late in the season due to injury, the guard led the team in rebounds (144). Hotham also led the Owls in two other categories — field goal percentage (37.6 percent) and free throw percentage (84.2 percent).
Churchill, also a junior from Fort Fairfield, ranked second on the Owls in scoring this season (212 points), averaging 8.8 per game. Churchill started every game and averaged 1.4 assists per game and 1.3 steals per game (both third on the team).
A sophomore guard from Pittsfield, Losee also was honored in the postseason for the first time in her career. She was third on the team in scoring (149 points) with 7.8 points per game. She led the team in assists (32) with 1.7 per game and averaged 1.5 steals per game (second on team).
