FF eighth-graders
attend Girls’ Day at the State House

On March 1, 2016, two eighth-grade students from Fort Fairfield Middle/High School traveled to Augusta and spent the day at the State House with roughly 100 other eighth-grade girls from around the state.

This event was hosted by the Women’s Policy Center of Maine, and was designed to allow girls from across the state an opportunity to learn firsthand how state government works and the importance of women’s leadership.
Bailee Mallet and Riley Clough have both expressed an interest in becoming lawyers, with Mallet’s ultimate goal of becoming president. Their School Social Worker, Robyn Daigle, thought it would be a great opportunity for the girls to meet both elected and appointed leaders, and to learn how they can use their voice to empower others and help improve issues they care about as young women in this state. The girls learned the ins and outs of the legislative process and got to meet lobbyists and journalists as well.
“Thank you to the Women’s Policy Center of Maine for sponsoring this event which is meant to introduce young women to government, helping to increase their participation and help educate women about the policy issues that affect their lives,” said Daigle.
