Items on warrant likely to be included in regular June town meeting

LIMESTONE, Maine — A special town meeting that was previously scheduled for April 13, 2016 was recently cancelled by Limestone Selectpeople, with the three items on the warrant being moved to their regular town meeting in June.

Select Board Chairman Tom Albert began the meeting by going ahead with the approval of the warrant, and then asked the board’s wishes.

Selectperson Melissa Devoe made a motion to cancel the special town meeting altogether and wait until the regular town meeting in June.

With the exception of Paul Poitras, all Selectpeople agreed to move the three items to the June meeting. Poitras voiced concern with one of the articles on the warrant, which involves appropriating money from the Economic Development Fund and spending it on a “part-time economic and community development person” for the town.

“I’m voting against it because I don’t agree with that article,” Poitras said. “If you want to renegotiate the articles I would vote for it, but that article that is not in my best interest.”

Chairman Albert told Poitras that they will look take another at the aforementioned article before the June meeting.

Other items to be transferred to the regular Town Meeting warrant include appropriating $3,000 toward the software behind the town website and $2,000 from the Cable Franchise Fees to upgrade the Public Access Channel, which records town meetings and broadcasts public service announcements on cable TV Channel 16 in Limestone.
