“They are part of us,” said project coordinator Artheline Bernier, “and we are going to get there too someday, so it’s good that we take care of our elderly. All our girls were just as joyful for having done it as our recipients at the nursing home.”
Artheline Bernier, of the Ladies of St. Anne, is coordinating the project, and explained that she brought up the idea to reach out and do something nice for the community at a recent meeting.
“We came up with the idea to do a sewing circle and make adult bibs since the nursing homes are always in need of them,” said Bernier.
The Ladies of St. Anne’s first bib delivery was in Limestone at Rising Hill, which Bernier says was a success.
“They were all so happy that we came. It brought joy to them, which made us feel good. So Angie McLaughlin had gotten some money from DAV and we thought it would be a good idea to thank them for having helped us, because fabric is expensive. So today, we are presenting them with 50 bibs.”
The ladies then presented 40 bibs at the Caribou Nursing Home and another 25 at Rising Hill, which meets their goal.
“A lot of girls would like to take a break, since many of them camp at Trafton Lake with their families,” said Bernier. “We hope that, during the summer, whoever wants to individually sew can, and the rest of us will gather in the fall.”
“In the past, the Ladies of St. Anne have donated blankets for the residents,” said Veterans Home Activity Director Karen Page, “so when we have new admissions, we give them blankets sewed by the Ladies. They are all very appreciative and grateful. It’s a nice little surprise and it brightens everyone’s day.”
