ISLAND FALLS — Alice M. Lane 94, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at Gardiner Health Care Facility in Houlton. She was born on October 21, 1921 in Island Falls, the daughter of Charles and Esther (Springer) Ryan.
Alice grew up in Island Falls, graduating from Island Falls High School in 1939. She married Willis “Bill” Lane in October 1941. They were happily married for 62 years until Bill’s passing in 2002. They will be fondly remembered holding hands and walking “around the block” every morning and evening. They had three sons: Willis, Jr., Malcolm and Martin. Alice was a lifelong member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church and local Sodality. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, and greatly enjoyed her 14 grandchildren. She was an avid reader, loved bird watching and was a passionate Red Sox fan. She was a fantastic cook and made the best homemade bread you can imagine. She knit countless wool socks and crocheted dozens of afghans. Alice will be remembered for her intelligence, strength, humor and compassion.
Alice is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sandra Lane, of Island Falls, a daughter-in-law, Perlene Lane, of Oakfield, her brother, Richard Ryan and his wife, Theresa, “Bunny” of Island Falls, her sister Patricia Boutilier of Houlton; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her three sons, four of her brothers: James, Clement “Tim”, Edward and Michael; and one grandson; Malcolm Lane, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Island Falls with Rev. David Raymond celebrant.
