BENICIA, Calif. — Captain Lawrence E. Ingraham, 89, of Benicia, California passed away April 8, 2016 in Benicia. He was born in Sherman Mills, on October 29, 1926, to Ray E. and Emily M. (Sides) Ingraham.

He was a 1944 graduate of Sherman High School, and a 1946 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, in Castine, where he became a Merchant Marine. He sought employment with General Motors company in Ohio in 1952, before returning to the sea. He married Adele Holbrook in New York on April 11, 1959. Soon after they would settle in California, where they made their home. He became a Captain of the Seas, sailing to numerous ports, both foreign and domestic, over his 33 year tenure. He navigated for the American President Lines the last 10 years of his career, retiring in 1987.

He was a life member of Molunkus Valley Lodge 165 AF and AM in Sherman, and a member of the Benicia Yacht Club.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, of Benicia, a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Estelle Ingraham of Huron, Ohio; nieces and nephews, David, Steve and Carla Ingraham, all of Ohio, and Cindy Ingraham of Indiana; also, Clayton and Elizabeth O’Roak of Orrington, Rebecca and Tom Guiggey, Paul and Debra J. O’Roak, Holly McNally, and Wade and Debra L O’Roak all of Sherman; Jymme O’Roak of Hudson, and Wendy and Rodney Anderson of Patten; as well as several cousins and great nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at a later date this year.
