On Thursday, April 21, the American Red Cross of Maine is launching its second annual 24-hour Giving Day to raise awareness about the critical relief services provided to victims of home fires and disaster incidents.
Red Cross Giving Day is asking Mainers to turn compassion into action and help one family in their time of need by making an online contribution. A donation of $88.50 can support a family of three with a day’s worth of food, blankets and other essentials following an emergency.
Patricia Murtagh, CEO of the American Red Cross in Maine, said, “By contributing to Giving Day, individuals will help the organization continue to provide vital assistance to those families impacted by life altering incidents.”
Every year, the Red Cross responds to nearly 66,000 disasters. That means that every eight minutes the Red Cross responds to a disaster, the vast majority of which are home fires. Funds raised on April 21 will go towards supporting families recovering from these home fires and disasters in Maine.
