PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Mitchell Hanning, a 25-year-old Mapleton resident being pursued on suspicion of methamphetamine manufacturing, turned himself in to police in Presque Isle on April 12, 2016.
Hanning was pulled over by Aroostook County sheriff’s deputies in Caribou on April 1 while driving a car matching the description of a vehicle involved in a theft.
Citing probable cause, sheriff’s deputies searched the vehicle and found what appeared to be evidence of methamphetamine manufacturing, along with a handgun, cooler and backpacks secured with padlocks. Hanning was charged with operating after suspension and released on bail, while the vehicle was towed away for further investigation.
After the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency executed a search warrant on the vehicle on April 4 and confirmed the methamphetamine manufacturing, the sheriff’s office asked the public for help finding Hanning so he could face felony drug charges.
Hanning has been charged with aggravated trafficking of methamphetamine and aggravated unlawful operation of a methamphetamine laboratory.
His bail is set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 surety and he remains at the Aroostook County Jail.
