HOULTON — Do you have a business idea you want to put into action? New Ventures Maine (formerly Women, Work, and Community) ( www.newventuresmaine.org) will offer free introductory business planning workshops at the Houlton Higher Education Center Monday, May 9, and Madawaska Town Hall on Monday, May 16. Both workshops will run 10 a.m. to noon.

“If you are thinking about opening your own business but aren’t sure where to begin, this training will give you the tools you need to start planning for success,” said Karin Petrin, microenterprise specialist for New Ventures Maine in Aroostook County.

The Introduction to Self-Employment workshop will walk participants through the pros and cons of owning your own business, show you how to get started step by step, point out the major elements of a business plan, introduce resources available in Aroostook County and statewide, and help you decide whether self-employment is the right choice for you.

Men, women, couples, and all entrepreneurs who are interested in starting a business are welcome in the class. Business owners who want a refresher on business planning, marketing, and financial cash flow planning are also welcome to attend.

For more information or to register, contact Petrin at 768-9768 or Karin.petrin@maine.edu. Pre-registration is required. There is no fee for the trainings. For more information on this class and other programs and services offered by New Ventures Maine, visit www.newventuresmaine.org.
