Rotary Club meetings held

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met April 12 at the Aroostook Health Center and the special speaker was Steve Towle, event manager of this year’s World Cup Biathlon held in February at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle
He and his wife, Jane, attended the World Cup Championship in late February in Oslo, Norway. He showed slides and spoke about the six days they spent attending different events.
The club also met April 19 at the health center and Dave Hentosh of Smoldering Lake Outfitters in Bridgewater was the speaker. He spoke about the Wounded Warrior Moose Hunt that is hosted at his facility each fall.
This will be the third year that the veterans will be on hand to help with Kicking Bear, another activity that is hosted in Bridgewater each year. The feedback from the youth as well as the veterans has been very positive.
This is the seventh year for Kicking Bear, an outreach aimed for at-risk youth or any youth that is interested in the outdoors. The day that is filled with archery, games, lunch, a water slide (it’s amazing how fun a hill, a piece of plastic, a hose and a bottle of dish soap can be) and more.
The ministry is committed to impacting the lives of children by introducing them to God’s great outdoors. They use skills like archery to build confidence and help kids realize the power of setting and achieving goals.
Kicking Bear is 100 percent free to kids and their parents. This year’s event is planned for Saturday, Sept. 17. For more information, contact Hentosh by phone at 429-0910, by email at dave@smoldering-lake-outfitters.com or check out their website at www.smoldering-lake-outfitters.com.
