Warriors win men’s league hoop title for third year in a row

 

     It was another great winter season of men’s basketball as the Caribou Men’s Basketball League featured six teams.

     The regular season wrapped up March 21, with the Warriors taking first place with a 17-3 record, followed by Caribou Eye Care at 13-7, Monstars at 10-10, Griffeth Ford at 9-11, McGillan’s Construction at 7-12 and Loring Job Corps at 3-16.

     All teams then entered the double-elimination playoff tournament beginning March 23 to see which team would be this year’s champions.

     On the fiirst night of the playoffs, McGillan’s Construction defeating Griffeth Ford, 50-49, and Monstars got past Loring Job Corps, 52-43. The next round of games saw the Warriors beat

     McGillan’s, 74-60, and Monstars outscoring Caribou Eye Care, 63-36.

     Round three featured the loser’s bracket matchups, with McGillan’s downing Loring Job Corps, 48-46, and Caribou Eye Care topping Griffeth Ford, 65-55. The fourth night of playoffs were winner’s bracket contests, with the Warriors handling the Monstars, 95-37, and McGillan’s being upset by Caribou Eye Care, 61-46.

     The Monstars played Caribou Eye Care in the semifinals to determine who would play the Warriors in the championship game. In that game, Caribou Eye Care beat Monstars, 60-53.

     The Warriors then went on to capture the championship for the third year in a row by besting Caribou Eye Care, 75-47.

     Top scorers in the final were Greg Whitaker, who poured in 24 points, and Matt Till who dumped in 12. Michael Boone was high scorer for the Caribou Eye Care with 13 points.
