Young readers build bridges to learning at Caribou library

CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Public Library recently hosted its second Lego party.

Young patrons had lots of fun building, creating, coloring, and watching Lego creations come to life. Lego party attendees also indulged in candy-shaped Legos, and individuals even had the chance to display their own Lego creations.

“When creating with Lego’s, there is more developing than what meets the eye,” said Youth Services Librarian Katherine Wilcox-Bosse. “Young patrons are taking part in STEAM, which is the acronym for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.”

Wilcox-Bosse said the library wants to assist in cultivating the next generation of thinkers.

“We want to ask children what they want to do when they grow up, not what they want to be,” she said. “Offering STEAM programs is one stepping stone we can offer our patrons that help them solve problems, build math skills, design and create.”
