HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Town Council agreed April 25, 2016 to a enter into a three-year agreement with a Glenmont, N.Y. company to provide liquid dust control and ice melting products for the town’s Public Works Department.

By a unanimous vote, the council approved the three-year contract with Innovative Surface Solutions and as part of the deal, the town agrees to purchase at minimum of 18,000 gallons of liquid product each year.

Public Works Director Chris Stewart said that meeting the volume requirement will not be a problem for the town as they typically use that many gallons simply on the liquid dust control product in the summer.

As part of the agreement, ISS will provide a 1,035-gallon spray system and a 3,000-gallon storage tank to the town at a value of $12,881.

The agreement does not lock in a price for the liquid product. According to Town Manager Butch Asselin, every community in Aroostook County, with the exception of Linneus, that does business with ISS is paying the same price of 99 cents per gallon for liquid dust control product. The price for ice melting liquid is currently $1.53 per gallon. Both of those prices are less than what the town is currently paying for similar products.

In other agenda items, the council agreed to transfer $1,600 from the Public Works Department Equipment Account to purchase a 2016 7-foot-by-12-foot utility trailer to be used for a hay baler for the department.
