HODGDON, Maine — Melanie Griffin a junior homeschool student, who is also enrolled part time in Hodgdon High School, was a Gold Key recipient for the state in the Scholastic Writing Competition in the science fiction/fantasy genre.
Griffin recently accepted the award at a banquet held at the University of Southern Maine. Newbury Medalist, Cynthia Voigt was the guest speaker.
The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers invited students in grades 7-12 to submit original artwork and writing, and join the legacy of Awards’ alumni such as Lena Dunham, Stephen King, Sylvia Plath and Andy Warhol.
