HIGGINS, George Frank, 88, PRESQUE ISLE, April 23, 2016. The family will hold a private ceremony and there will be no funeral. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
PRESQUE ISLE – George Frank Higgins, 88, died on April 23, 2016, at home. He was born the son of Frank and Marie (Washburn) Higgins on March 13, 1928, in Presque Isle.
George graduated from Presque Isle High School, the University of Maine, and the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He did his residency in OB/GYN at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. He then came back to Presque Isle where he practiced medicine for 30 years.
He was an avid pilot and also served as an FAA Aviation Medical Examiner for 56 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Caroline (Taylor) Higgins; brother, Paul (Darlene) Higgins, all of Presque Isle; daughters, Kendra Farris (David) of Portland, OR, and Emily McDevitt (Jonathan) of Camden, ME; son, Tim (Nancy Reichley) of Seattle, WA; and son-in-law, Ed Steltzer of Hampden, ME; grandchildren include Andrew, Cameron and Leah (Tim) Steltzer, Brian (Alexis) and Nick (Becky) Farris, Matt and Katie Higgins, Jonathan Jr. and Henry McDevitt; and a brother-in-law Ernest Hughes of Idaho Falls, ID.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Allison Steltzer; and his sister, Nancy Hughes.
The family will hold a private ceremony and there will be no funeral. Those who wish may donate in his name to the Presque Isle Congregational Church.
