PRESQUE ISLE – SMSGT. Charles W. Fikes, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 25, 2016, at his residence. He was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Corena, Walker County, AL, the son of Woodford and Myrtle Mae (Brown) Fikes.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 32 years of service doing battle damage repairs in WWII, Korean War and Vietnam conflict. After his retirement he worked in Presque Isle as a master sheet metal worker for Walter Enterprises. In his spare time he enjoyed remodeling and rebuilding Volkswagens and making go carts and toys for his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Caribou.
Charles is survived by his son, Charles P. Fikes and his wife, Dr. Ellen Bentley of Glenburn; two daughters, Una Lynne Ward and her partner, Paul Harding of Rockland, and Julie Anne Slaughter and her husband, David of Presque Isle; a brother, Bobby B. Fikes of Birming-
ham, AL; three sisters; Billie Opal Davis and Peggy Jane Rideout, both of Birmingham, AL, and Barbara Sue White of Alabaster, AL; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis (Paschal) Fikes, and an infant grandson, Benjamin Fikes.
Funeral services were held at noon Friday, April 29, 2016, at Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in Caribou. Friends called 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment with military honors were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Bangor. Online condolences may shared at www.duncan-graves.com.
