BEVERLY, MA — William J. Ring Jr. 84, beloved husband of Priscilla (Ervin) Ring, died Friday, April 29, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late William J. Sr. and Mary E. (Keena) Ring. He graduated from New Britain High School in CT and continued his education at Bentley College and the University of Connecticut. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Radioman of the United States Navy aboard the USS Harry Bauer.
Mr. Ring had been employed for sixteen years as an intermodal manager for the Massachusetts Port Authority until the time of his retirement. Prior to that he had worked as a shipping agent for the Rice, Unruh Reynolds Company and also the Patterson, Wylde and Company in Boston.
Active in civic organizations and youth sports, Mr. Ring was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Beverly Farms, MA the Union Club in Beverly and the Nickerson Lake Preservation Association. He was a former Cub Scout Master, a little league coach, youth football coach, past President and coach of Youth Hockey.
A resident of Beverly, MA since 1959, he and his family enjoyed spending their summer and fall months at their home on Nickerson Lake in New Limerick, Maine. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Mary Maggiacomo of Beverly, three sons, William J. Ring III of NY, Christopher L. Ring of Beverly and Michael Patrick Ring and his wife, Andrea Griffin Ring of Guilford, CT, ten grandchildren, Caitlin, Kelly, Erin, Lydia, Emily, William IV, Michael, Jack, Thomas and Lia, one great granddaughter, Sofie, two sisters, Margery Leuschner and her husband, William of Southport, CT and Rosemary Woolwich and her husband, Elliot of Bridgewater, CT, two brothers, Jerome Ring and his wife, Mary of Woodbridge, VA and James Ring of South Port, NC. He was also survived by his beloved dogs, Bruin and Olive. He was the brother of the late Robert Ring.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 705 Hale Street, Beverly Farms, Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
