2016 Mother’s Day tribute
REMEMBER WHEN
Do you remember some of the various outings you had with your parents? How about the ones with your mom? I remember a time when in junior high school at Skyway here in Presque Isle, we had a gymnastics/tumbling demonstration that the parents were invited to. My dad was working but my mom was there.
We all came out of the locker rooms and lined up on the gym floor in front of the bleachers and waited our turn to do our routine. As it neared my turn I sure regretted eating dinner that night. The butterflies were at war in my tummy and there was no stopping them. Then coach said your turn and I went out to the mat and did my tumbling routine. I flubbed a couple places but the coach and I were all the ones who knew it.
After the program we filed to the locker rooms and showered and dressed in street clothes. When I came out of the locker room there was my mom, grinning from ear to ear. She was so proud. Ya know what? Just the look on her face made the butterfly wars worth it.
Mom is gone now but I still remember that night and the joy it gave her to be there and the joy for me knowing she was there for me.
Please, take it from me. When you are getting on in years and mom is no longer here, it’s too late to tell her what you feel and to thank her for being there for you all those formative years. If your mom is still with us, please give her a big hug and if nothing else tell her you love her.
Then when you get to be in your golden years you can Remember When …
