Adventure race to return to East Grand

DANFORTH, Maine — The East Grand Adventure Race returns to challenge area athletes on Saturday, May 14, 2016, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The rigorous 20-mile course includes a 1.5-mile off trail compass run; 10 miles of mountain biking; eight miles of paddling (canoe or kayak).

Extra challenges in the field include a mud pit crawl, two-person cross-cut saw competition, tomahawk throwing, log rolling in Baskahegan Stream, climbing wall challenge and a few extra new surprise challenges.

The divisions include: race in pairs in the high school boys, girls, mixed; adult men, women, mix; Jr./Sr. The open division can by solo, teams of any size, relay, kayak or canoe.

“In short, anything that doesn’t fit into the other divisions can compete in the open division,” said Dave Conley, event organizer. “Entering a relay team is a great way to participate without having to complete the entire course.”

The fee is $20 per person which includes trophies, t-shirt, lunch and over $1,000 in prizes for youth divisions. Proceeds benefit East Grand School’s Outdoor Education program. The race is sponsored in part by Sun Edison, Woodie Wheaton Land Trust, Machias Savings Bank and Ski Rack Sports. The registration deadline is Friday, May 13.
