CHAISSON, Ruth L., 95, YARMOUTH, May 1, 2016. There will be a graveside service on Friday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yarmouth. Arrangements are under the care of Funeral Alternatives Cremation & burial services, Yarmouth.
YARMOUTH – Ruth L. Chaisson, 95, passed away peacefully of natural causes May 1, 2016 surrounded by family. Ruth was born October 2, 1920, in Presque Isle, to Iva Bean and Bernard Kenney and was one of 12 children. She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1937.
Ruth moved to southern Maine and met her husband, Joseph D. Chaisson and they were married in 1942. They made their permanent home in Yarmouth after the war in 1943 and she resided in the home they built in 1951 until her death.
Ruth worked in housekeeping at the Maine Eye and Ear Hospital in Portland, became a seasoned cook when she worked for Judge Wilson in Westbrook and clerked at the shipyard in Portland during WWII. She did clerical and retired from the Yarmouth School Department in 1982.
Ruth was a member of the Twice Fifteen Club, CascoBay Couples Club, Yarmouth Senior Citizens, and volunteered with the Health Council. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, doing puzzles, crossword puzzles, playing cards, reading her kindle, and her beloved RedSox games. She celebrated her family with birthday wishes and lots of laughs and shared memories, and was the go-to person for dates of birth, marriage, children’s names, whatever fact you needed to know about her large and closely knit family.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Chaisson; son, Wayne J. Chaisson; brothers, Harold Kenney, Murray Kenney and Donald Kenney; sisters Opal Bagley, Audrey Golden, Mildred Lint and Rowena Gove.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Seabury and husband, David of Yarmouth; son, Donald Chaisson and his wife, Mona of Durham (her children, Dustin, Joshua, Bethany and Sarah); four grandchildren, Monique Williams and her husband, Robert, Paul Chaisson, Elizabeth Seabury and Michael Seabury and his wife, Jennifer; five great-grandchildren, Alexander Stevens, Caleb Moore, Blaise Williams, Aiden Williams and Quinn Chaisson. She also is survived by her sisters, Christine McPherson of Mapleton, and Althea Sweeney and her husband, John of Portland; brothers, Beryl Kenney and his wife, Donna of Presque Isle and Lyle Kenney and his wife, Dawn of Mapleton; brother-in-law, Richard Chaisson and his wife, Pat of New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Andrea Chaisson of NewYork; and many nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews. Ruth will be missed by her wonderful neighbors, Arlene, Pam and Emery, Lorah, Raina and Dave, and Julia and Lee who enabled her to stay in her home and feel safe under their watchful eye.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yarmouth, open to the public. A reception and a luncheon will follow in the hall at Sacred Heart Church.
