In Class D North, Hodgdon (7-2, 20.0119) is third in the region behind Shead (7-1, 22.3438) and Penobscot Valley (5-1, 20.7500). Southern Aroostook (2-3, 7.0536) is 13th in the region, but still in the playoff picture. Katahdin (1-4, 3.4694) is 15th and East Grand (0-6, no points) is tied for 17th.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday.
East Grand/GHCA 8, Hodgdon 9 — At Hodgdon Monday, Wyatt Foster and Sam Horton combined to strike out 10 batters to help Hodgdon squeeze past East Grand/Greater Houlton Christian Academy.
Matt Tuttle led the Hawk offense with a single, a run scored, and two RBIs, including the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth.
For East Grand/GHCA, Peter Apgar pitched a complete game, striking out six. Thomas Gilman led the the Vikings offense with two singles, an RBI and three runs scored.
Houlton 14, Lee Academy 3 –– At Lee Monday, the pitching trio of Ryan Dee, Nick Perfitt and Billy Phillips combined to record 14 strikeouts, with just one walk as the Shires cruised past Lee Academy.
Thomas Prescott, Nick Botting and Phillips each singled twice for the Shires, while Dee tripled and Zack Hagan doubled.
For Lee Academy (0-7), Matty Knowles and Randy McLeod had two singles each and Cole Harriman drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single.
Hodgdon 8, Ashland 18 — At Ashland Saturday, a depleted Hodgdon squad struggled against Ashland. Jordyn Merritt led the Hawks with a triple and a single. Andrew Tuttle and Danny Gillotti scored twice.
For Ashland, Alex Kaiser and Airin Harmin led the way offensively with a double and two singles apiece en route to a 17-hit win. Kyle Beaulier added a double and one single while Tim Tarr scored four times for the Hornets.
Hodgdon 13, Central Aroostook 9 — At Mars Hill Friday, Daden Palmer tallied three hits, while Andrew Tuttle had two hits and three RBIs to pace the Hawks over CAHS.
For the Panthers, Nick Dominique had a double and Taylor Campbell had two hits and two RBIs.
Houlton 12 Fort Kent 1 — At Fort Kent Friday, in the first game of a doubleheader, Houlton’s Phillips bashed a grand slam as the Shires rolled to victory in a five-inning game. Colby Callnan added two hits for the Shires. Seven of the nine Houlton batters tallied at least one hit.
Cameron Graham allowed one run on one hit with nine strikeouts through five innings of work.
Houlton 15, Fort Kent 2 — In the second game, Houlton’s offensive firepower continued as the Shires again routed the Warriors. Pat Howe allowed two runs and struck out 11 in a five-inning game. Phillips and Connor Grant each had three hits.
East Grand/GHCA 3, Washburn 4 — At Washburn Friday, the host Beavers picked up the close one-run win over visiting East Grand/GHCA. Individual results were not reported.
Southern Aroostook 5, Katahdin 10 –– At Stacyville Friday, the Cougars picked up their first win of the year by doubling up Southern Aroostook. Individual game results were not reported.
Presque Isle 0, Houlton 6 — At Houlton Thursday, Ryan Dee threw a two-hit shutout, while striking out eight as the Shires blanked visiting Presque Isle. Thomas Prescott, Colby Callnan, Zack Hagan and Nick Perfitt each had two hits for Houlton.
Cooper Madore and Kyle Rider had the lone hits for Presque Isle.
Hodgdon 15, Katahdin 1 — At Stacyville May 4, Hodgdon’s seniors powered the Hawks to victory. Senior Sam Horton pitched six strong innings striking out eight, while only allowing just two hits. Horton helped his own cause by scoring three runs, walking twice, and hitting a two-run single.
Hawk senior Jimmy Buzzell walked, singled twice, doubled, and scored two runs, while senior Blake Woods walked twice, singled twice, scored twice, and drove in two runs.
For Katahdin, Tyson Porter singled, and reached on an error while collecting one RBI. Devin McGraw also hit a hard single for the Cougars. Rigoberto Otero reached safely on a walk and scored the lone run for Katahdin. Dakota Reinhardt reached base safely twice with two walks.
East Grand/GHCA 4, Southern Aroostook 8 — At Dyer Brook May 4, SACS’ Cory Rockwell singled twice and had two RBIs to lead the Warriors to the win. Hunter Walker added two singles and Hunter Lawlor doubled in a run for the victors.
For East Grand/Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Peter Apgar, Isaac Potter and Trevor Noyes each had two singles.
The Vikings tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning, but SACS plated three runs in the home half and never looked back.
