The Houlton girls tennis squad continues to make strides on the court this season. The Shires, (4-3, 10.4167 Heal Points) are ranked seventh in the Class C North region as of Tuesday morning, firmly entrenched in the playoff picture.
The Houlton boys tennis teams has played in a number of competitive matches, but it has not translated into victories for the squad. The Houlton boys (0-7, no points) are tied for 14th in Class C North.
The following is a recap of girls matches played through Monday.
Houlton 3, Fort Kent 2 — Playing a doubleheader at the University of Maine at Presque Isle Monday, the individual results, with Shires listed first, were: in singles, Becca Mooers defeated Sarah Pelletier, 8-4; Piper Flewelling beat Cassidy Lovley, 8-6; and Houlton forfeited to Alexis Lovley. In doubles, Lauren Hogan and Tess McCormick bested Autumn Bouchard and Isabelle Charette, 8-5; and Emily Miller and Nadia Messerschmitt lost to Stephanie Martin and Megan, 4-8.
Fort Kent 3, Houlton 1 — In the second match of the doubleheader, the Shires lost an abbreviated match. In singles, Flewelling lost to Pelletier, 5-8; and Houlton forfeited second singles, while both squads forfeited third singles. In doubles, Hogan and McCormick beat Bouchard and Charette, 8-3; and Miller and Messerschmitt lost to Martin and Alexis Lovley, 3-8.
Madawaska 1, Houlton 4 — At Madawaska Friday, the individual results, with Shires listed first were: in singles, Piper Flewelling beat Abby Gonneville, 8-2; June Choi lost to Isabelle Jandreau 2-8; and Nadja Messerschmitt (H) won by forfeit. In doubles, Lauren Hogan and Morgan Nelson beat Hailey Vanier and Katelyn Beaulieu, 8-1; and Tessa McCormick and Carrie Hannigan won by forfeit.
Houlton 4, Madawaska 1 — Results from the second match of the doubleheader, which Houlton won 4-1, were: in singles, Flewelling beat Gonneville, 8-1; Choi lost to Jandreau, 6-8; and Messerschmitt won by forfeit. In doubles, Hogan and Nelson beat Vanier and Beaulieu, 8-1; and McCormick and Hannigan won by forfeit.
Houlton 4, Van Buren 1 — At Houlton May 4, the individual results, with Shires listed first, were: in singles, Becca Mooers lost to Alexis Ouellette, 3-8; Flewelling beat Lindsay Gendreau, 8-4; and Choi defeated Danika Deschaine, 8-5. In doubles, Hogan and Nelson beat Kaila Roy and Emma Lajoie, 8-3; and McCormick and Emily Miller bested Mykayla Bressett-Erica Ouellette, 9-7.

Houlton 0, Fort Kent 3 — Results from the second match of the doubleheader were: in singles, Isaiah Littleton lost to Ryan Chasse, 0-8; and Devin Ivey fell to Rowan Stamp, 1-8. Third singles was not played. In doubles, Miller and Youngfellow were beaten by Charette and Jonathan Blanchette, 2-8. Second doubles was not played.
Madawaska 4, Houlton 1 — At Madawaska Friday, the individual results, with Houlton players listed first, were: in singles, Isaiah Littleton beat Lucas Gendreau, 8-5; Owen Gallop lost to Matt Cyr, 3-8; and Devin Ivey was beaten by Craig Gendreau, 3-8. In doubles, Sam Astle and Timothy Youngfellow lost to Ben Hebert and Lance Lavoie, 0-8; and Justin Hogan and Brandon Smith fell to Alex Daigle and Kameron Landry, 0-8.
Madawaska 5, Houlton 0 — In the second match of the doubleheader, the results were: in singles, Littleton fell to Gendreau, 8-9 (5-7 in tiebreaker); Gallop lost to Cyr, 2-8; and Ivey was beaten by Gendreau, 2-8. In doubles, Astle and Youngfellow lost to Hebert and Lavoie, 1-8; and Hogan and Smith were beaten by Daigle and Landry, 0-8.
Van Buren 5, Houlton 0 — At Houlton May 4, the individual results were: in singles, Littleton lost to Thomas Lajoie, 1-8; Gallop fell to Brandon Sytulek, 2-8; and Ivey was beaten by Neil Soucy, 5-8. In doubles, Astle and Dominic Miller were beaten by Max Beaulieu and Joey Cantwell, 4-8; and Youngfellow and Smith lost to Brenton Soucy and Skylar Paradis, 0-8.
