Flag football to begin soon

     Aroostook Huskies Football and SAD 1 have announced that they’ve partnered to start a flag football program for youth in grades 1-6 in central Aroostook County.

     Information meetings were held recently, but those still interested in getting involved should go to the Huskies’ website at http://www.aroostookfootball.org and click on the “Contact Us” link on the home page. This will open up an email link that can be used to send a message to the program.

Lottery deadline approaches

     The deadline to apply online for the Maine Moose Permit Lottery is fast approaching, and hunters who want the chance to hunt moose in Maine need to visit www5.informe.org/online/moose/ and complete their online application by 11:59 p.m. May 16, 2016.

     The online application process is fast and simple and you receive instant confirmation that you have successfully entered the lottery. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will hold a chance drawing on June 11 at Kittery Trading Post.

Softball leagues have openings

     Those interested in entering a co-ed or men’s softball team in the Caribou/Presque Isle League this summer should contact Matt Bouchard at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Department at 493-4224 or matt@cariboumaine.org.

     League dues are $550 for the season and must be received by Friday, May 13. The season will begin the week of Memorial Day.

River Fun Run is Saturday 

     Registration for the eight-mile canoe and kayak race from Washburn to Presque Isle Saturday runs from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Racers will hit the water at 10 a.m., beginning at Thomas Brewer Park and finishing downstream at the PI Fish and Game Club.

     Walkers, runners or mountain bike riders are also welcome to take part on the trail along the river if conditions allow.

     A barbecue lunch will be provided after the race to all registered participants. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Ashland Girl Scouts.
