Rider named tech Student of the Year
Officials at the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center have announced Kyle Rider as the CTE student of the year.
Rider was chosen unanimously for the honor from a large group of outstanding students. He has been a student in both building trades and agriscience/natural resources, and has earned four college credits from the University of Maine at Fort Kent in environmental sciences.
PIRCTC officials described him as hardworking, enthusiastic and a young man of extraordinary character. He has been a significant part of the center for several years, and staff are extremely proud of him and wish him the best of luck in his future.
Rider has even managed to find time to serve as the CTE office aide, where his pleasant personality and enthusiastic demeanor is immediately on display for visitors.
He has distinguished himself at PIRCTC by participating in a litany of classes and activities during high school. He is a member of SkillsUSA, where he recently won a gold medal in masonry. He has participated in FFA, served as vice president of the Outdoor Club and is a member of the Envirothon Team.
Rider also manages to stay busy with other school activities, as he has played varsity soccer, basketball, baseball and volleyball during his high school tenure and, in fact, has earned eight varsity letters.
He has been a volunteer at Mapleton Elementary School and the Presque Isle Recreation Department. He served as a volunteer valet at the Presque Isle High School prom and also at the city of Presque Isle’s Annual Haunted Tour. During his academic tenure at PIRCTC, he has qualified for the following certifications: OSHA 10-hour course, adult CPR/AED/first aid, pesticide workers license, and OSHA safety training in both ladder and scaffolding.
Rider has been accepted into the criminal justice program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and plans a career in law enforcement.
