Tennis teams log quiet week

 HOULTON, Maine — It was a relatively quiet week for the Houlton boys and girls tennis teams with only one match on the schedule. The Shires were slated to host Presque Isle Monday afternoon, but that match was postponed due to the weather as snow showers were prevalent for much of the day.

The Shires will now play their home match against Presque Isle on the road, due to schedule conflicts, on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 5:30 p.m.

On Tuesday May 10, Houlton journeyed to Presque Isle, coming out on the losing end of both matches. The Houlton girls (4-4) fell to Presque Isle, 3-2; while the Houlton boys (0-7) lost 0-5.

The individual girls results, with Houlton players listed first, were: in singles, Becca Mooers lost to Michelle Cawley, 1-8; Piper Flewelling lost to Sarah Morneault, 2-8; and Houlton forfeited third singles to Miranda Bragan.

In doubles, Lauren Hagan and Tessa McCormick beat Sedona Lucas and Anna Robinson, 8-4; and Emily Miller and Nada Messerschmitt bested Ellie Goheen and Savannah Levesque, 8-6.

In boys’ action, Isaiah Littleton lost to Denny Young, 1-8; Devin Ivey fell to Byron Winslow, 0-8; and Sam Astle was beaten by Andre Daigle, 1-8. In doubles, Dominic Miller and Timothy Youngfellow lost to Colin Daigle and Jordan Bonville, 1-8; and Justin Hogan and Branden Smith were beaten by Mason Young and Tyler Ayotte, 1-8.
