Wayne G. Reed

     NORTH MONMOUTH — Wayne G. Reed, 71, of Wilson Pond Road, and formerly of Augusta, died Friday, May 20, 2016, at Maine General Medical Center. He was born at home in Woodland, on Sept. 28, 1944, the son of Ruel and Vernice (August) Reed.

     Wayne graduated from Caribou High School, class of 1963, and later from Northern Maine Vocational Technical College, where he studied to become an electrician. On Dec. 9, 1966, he married Pam Everett in Fort Fairfield. Wayne started his banking career with Commercial Credit in 1968 in Presque Isle. He was transferred to Lewiston in 1970 and remained with them until 1974. He spent the rest of his 39-year career working for various banks in Augusta, retiring from Gardiner Savings Bank in 2007. Wayne was a true outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending summers at his camp on Schoodic Lake at Lakeview Plantation. In his earlier years, Wayne and Pam often took the children camping. In 1996, he and Pam took a Caribbean Cruise together.

     Wayne was predeceased by his wife, Pam, on July 25, 2009; and a half-brother, Melfert P. Hardacker, on May 2, 2005. 

     He is survived by a son, Timothy Reed and his wife, Tina, of Hampden; a daughter, Kimberly Blackstone and her husband, Dana, of North Monmouth; a brother, Reginald Reed and his wife, Lorraine, of Caribou; three grandchildren, Drew Blackstone, Tyler Reed and Trevor Reed; two nieces, Michelle Reed and Celeste Hanish; a nephew, Ryan Everett; his mother-in-law, Edna Everett of Presque Isle; and his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Everett and his wife, Cathy, of Cross Lake.

     There will be no visiting hours. A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, at Green Street United Methodist Church in Augusta with the Rev. Thom Blackstone, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Fairfield on June 30 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, Office of Philanthropy, P.O.
