DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — Track athletes from Houlton journeyed to Foxcroft Academy Saturday for the 2016 PVC small school championships. A total of 18 schools were represented at the meet.

The Houlton athletes found the competition to be a bit tougher than previous meets during the season. The Houlton boys finished sixth out of 18 squads, while the girls were 13th.

The boys team scores were: 1, Orono, 194; 2, Caribou, 103; 3, Washington Academy, 64; 4, George Stevens, 60; 5, Mattanawcook, 30; 6, Houlton, 29; 7, Central, 25; 8, Dexter, 21; 9, Bangor Christian, 16; 10, Calais, 14; 11, Bucksport, 10; 12, Deer-Isle Stonington, 8; 13, Sumner, 5; 14 (tie), Searsport and Penquis Valley, both 2; 16, Fort Kent, 1; and Greenville and PCHS, no scores.

The girls team scores were: 1, Orono, 237; 2, George Stevens, 79.50; 3, Caribou, 75; 4, Central, 61; 5, Bucksport, 24; 6, Searsport, 21; 7, Mattanawcook, 19.50; 8, Dexter, 19; 9, Washington Acad, 13; 10, Penquis Valley, 10; 11, Piscataquis, 9; 12, Bangor Christian, 8; 13, Houlton, 7; 14, Fort Kent, 1; and Calais, Greenville and Sumner, no scores.

“It was certainly a hot day which was not in favor for performances in the long distance events,” said Houlton coach Chris Rines. “The day was full of some ups and downs for us, we had new school records set in the girls 200 meter by Mia Hanning (28.75) and girls 1600 by Rylee Warman (5:45.66), and saw several athletes make finals in the 100 (Hanning, Ethan Fletcher, and Austin Brown), Javelin (Tim Glatter), and Discus (Nathan Bouchard).”

In order for teams to have athletes entered in this meet they had to qualify at a previous meets during the regular season. Houlton had nine students make the cut across several different events. That number is one more than a year ago and represented far more events.

“Many of these same athletes will be back in action next week again at Foxcroft academy for the Class C state championships,” Rines said. “A few of them are anxiously awaiting the final performance lists of the season to see if they had made the cut into the championships. Nathan Bouchard, Tim Glatter and Olivia Winslow all have provisional qualifying standards and are not necessarily guaranteed a bid into state competition.”

The individual results for Houlton boys were:
