Group learns about chamber

IN APPRECIATION — Dana Crory, Presque Isle PROBUS Club president, presents Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Theresa Fowler with a certificate of appreciation for serving as the guest speaker at the club’s May meeting.
Ginny Joles, the program director, introduced Theresa Fowler, president of the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, and member of the board of directors for the Maine State Chamber, as the guest speaker.
Fowler provided much information showing all facets of the chamber’s duties, business and future plans.
In 2008 the Aroostook Chamber had 299 members but since the merger with the Caribou Chamber, the membership has increased to 400 members. This makes for a very advantageous opportunity for all of Aroostook County, Fowler said. It provides a broader conduit for educating the complete area about events and new business developments in the surrounding communities. The chamber is also an active participant in the Downtown Revitalization Committee.
Some of the events coming up are the Downtown Farmers Market at Riverside Park, the Aroostook Beerfest to be held at the Nordic Heritage Center, the search for production of high-protein grains to be used at Jackson Laboratory for animal feed, First Friday art walks with music and vendors, and bands this summer at Riverside Park. The covered Farmers Market building is publicly available to rent for any variety of occasions.

President Dana Crory adjourned the meeting. The next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, June 16.
