Mars Hill home destroyed
MARS HILL, Maine — A fire Thursday night has left a home burned beyond repair and is under investigation by the Maine fire marshal’s office.
The Mars Hill Fire Department went to the home on West Ridge Road following calls around 7 p.m., according to Fire Chief Darrell Wilson.
Madalyn Coffin, the mother of homeowner Chris Coffin, and two of her grandchildren were at home at the time but got out of the house without injury, Wilson said Friday.
The fire took about four hours to extinguish, with roughly 40 crew members from Mars Hill and the neighboring towns of Easton and Bridgewater, whose departments lent mutual aid, Wilson said.
The fire appears to have started in a garage, but investigators are trying to confirm the cause, Wilson said.
Family members are staying with relatives and receiving support of the Red Cross and community members, he said. Tracy Coffin, the sister of Chris, has set up a GoFundMe web page to raise support.
