Elks Junior Golf to begin second season
For the second year, the Presque Isle Elks’ Lodge 1954 will sponsor the Elks Junior Golf program at Presque Isle Country Club. The sign-up meeting for this program will be Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 4 p.m. at the Presque Isle Country Club.
The junior golf program provides for free golf instruction one day each week and supervised team golf play on Sunday evenings. For any young person who does not have their own golf equipment or available transportation, the Presque Isle Elks, in conjunction with the Presque Isle Country Club, will assure that it is provided.
Participation in the Junior Golf program is open to any young person entering grades 4 through 8. The only thing the young person will be required to bring is a desire to learn the game of golf. The Presque Isle Elks’ Lodge 1954, through a grant from the Elks National Foundation, together with the pro shop at the Presque Isle Country Club, will provide golf equipment and balls to any young person who does not have their own.
Barry Madore, the resident pro at the Presque Isle Country Club, together with his assistant, will be providing golf instruction without charge. Junior Golf participants do not pay green fees. Transportation will be provided by the Elks for any young person who wishes to learn the game of golf this summer but would have difficulty arranging for their own transportation to the course.
For transportation to the initial sign up meeting, call the Presque Isle Elks Lodge at 764-0985. Madore, the Presque Isle Country Club’s PGA Pro, is a member of the Presque Isle Elks Lodge and once again will act as the chairperson for this program.
“The Presque Isle Elks’ Lodge 1954 has again this year enlisted the assistance of the Elks National Foundation to insure that any young person entering grades 4 through 8, who has the desire to learn the game, will not be left out on account of the initial financial cost of the sport of golf. The Elks and the Presque Isle Country Club will provide everything necessary, except the young person’s desire to golf,” he said.
