Residents voting on 42 separate articles
LIMESTONE, Maine — Selectpeople recently voted to approve the warrant for an upcoming town meeting, which is set to take place on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in the Limestone Community School auditorium at 6 p.m.
Residents who attend will have the opportunity to vote on a total of 42 separate articles relating to the 2016-17 budget.
A few items on the warrant that were recently discussed by selectpeople include appropriating $10,000 from the undesignated fund balance/surplus to match the Loring Development Foundation’s financial contribution to a new economic development coordinator position for the town.
The warrant’s explanation of the new position states the hired individual will focus on bringing in new business and promoting the town, as well as “working with and retaining our current local businesses, seeking grants, and promoting and answering inquiries about tourism, among other related functions/focuses.”
The next article involves the appropriation of $3,000 from the same undesignated fund to upgrade the town website in an effort to reduce crashes and allow for easier mobile access.
In a move to reduce next year’s tax commitment, voters are asked to appropriate a total of $624,840 from revenue sharing, income, fund balance/surplus, local road assistance, and the Trafton fund to lessen the overall tax burden.
