The kickoff event of the year for the Mapleton Haystack Historical Society was the annual Mother-Daughter Tea, held on May 14.
All of the mothers and daughters, as well as grandmothers, granddaughters and mothers- and daughters-in-law who arrived, were treated to a delicious selection of sandwiches, fruits and sweets.
Guests could explore the museum, which houses a number of historical items and artifacts from the towns of Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill, and were able to inspect the photo albums and family quilts that hang in the museum.
The main event at the tea, which is the year’s opening event of the Historical Society, was a crafts learning session led by Lisa Shepherd from New Hampshire. She taught everyone how to make a decorative teacup using different gluing and cutting techniques.
All who attended enjoyed the event and are looking forward to the society’s next tea, which could possibly be a Christmas Tea held closer to the holidays.

Mark your calendars: The Haystack Historical Society’s next event is its annual homemade pie and coffee sale during Mapleton Daze.
Patrons visiting the museum on June 25 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. can enjoy a slice of pie and coffee during their visit. Visitors will be able to purchase a slice of pie from 20 or more varieties, which can be topped off with homemade ice cream.
What better way can one enjoy a warm summer day and support our local museum? The society welcomes everyone to the museum this summer.
