HOULTON, Maine — Family, friends and colleagues gathered at Lakeside Restaurant at Houlton Community Golf Course on June 1, 2016 to honor retirees from the RSU 29 school district.

The event was hosted by the Houlton Educators’ Association, RSU 29 Superintendent Ellen Schneider and the board of directors. Honorees and guests were greeted by Katie Wright, vice president of the Educators’ association and invited to enjoy a social hour culminating with presentations and remarks for each honored guest.

Schneider welcomed those in attendance, congratulating the retirees. “This evening is well deserved and well earned. You have all been very dedicated to the students of RSU 29.”

Guest speakers were: Houlton High School Principal Marty Bouchard and Joyce Smith, former director of cafeteria services, for Bonnie Quint, retiring with 10 years of service in the cafeteria; Special Education Director, Jan Neureuther for Terry Charest, special education teacher at Southside School with 25 years; Houlton Elementary Principal Candace Crane for Jan Martin, grade two teacher at Houlton Elementary School with 38 years and for Lee Ann Kinens with 39 years in various grades and schools in the district.

Each honoree received a wooden bell commemorating their years of service, gifts from their individual schools and from the educator’s association. Also retiring, but not in attendance at the event were Jean Maunder, chemistry teacher at Houlton High School with 15 years in the district and Otis Smith, director of Adult Education with 24 years of service.
