Riding along by the 4th — It is expected that two automobiles will be in town by the Fourth of July in Caribou, just in time for a celebration. And why not have one of them head the procession?
Good weather — Thermometers registered 92 degrees in the shade at noon today. Several parties have also found ripe strawberries during the past week. It was also good enough weather recently for several young people to enjoy a buckboard ride and a day’s outing at Madawaska Lake last Thursday.
100 Years Ago — June 8, 1916
Encouragement — Postmaster Fred S. Doyle has received encouragement from the postal authorities at Washington that the Caribou village may have a free delivery of mail in the not-too-far distant future.
Band of travelers — A band of gypsies has been making their camp on the Presque Isle road during the past week.
75 Years Ago — June 5, 1941
Pendell accepts position — Phillip G. Pendell, a former resident of this town, left Saturday night for Boston, where he has accepted a position with the United States government as a junior field civil service examiner. Pendell has been county editor for the Bangor Daily News and previously served on the staff of the paper in Bangor. He is a graduate of the University of Maine and of CHS, where he was active in journalistic work.
Clovers to open season — The Caribou Clovers opened their baseball season, journeying to meet Fort Fairfield in a pre-league tilt. Among candidates reporting for this year’s nine are such Caribou stars as Phil Rogers, Basil Chapman, Phil Mealey, Gordon Bragdon, Gerald Devoe, Edgar Hamilton, Sam Freme, Ben Brissette and Ray Rogers.
50 Years Ago — June 8, 1966
Class of 1966 graduates 232 — A baccalaureate service June 19 at Caribou High School opened commencement week activities for 232 graduating seniors this year. The service consisted of a panel of four clergymen and four students. The four seniors gave readings, upon which the clergy commented. Dr. Clifford Wieden of Aroostook State College was the graduation speaker at the General Carter Armory on June 24.
Caribou Jaycees selection — Caribou Jaycees selected as one of their civic projects the improvement of a very unsightly area on Sweden Street in the heart of the community. The area they selected was completely overgrown with brush and has been used as sort of a dumping ground for all sorts of trash.

Landfill directors get OK — Caribou city councilors agreed to join Fort Fairfield and Limestone in giving the Tri-Community Recycling and Sanitary Landfill directors permission to continue negotiations with Loring Air Force Base as a user or partner at the landfill. The three communities own the landfill located on Murphy Road in Fort Fairfield.
Food Trend special — Food Trend in Caribou had a special on food prices. You could buy a coffee and doughnut for only 29 cents, three cans of Dr. Pepper for 99 cents, and a small Slush Puppie for only 35 cents.
