MAINE & SOUTH CAROLINA – Annie Martina Everett Polete passed away on January 17, 2016, in Beaufort, SC. Annie was born to parents Levi W. and Agnes E. (McKinnon) Everett on April 25, 1926, in Norridgewock ME. She was the eldest of five children and lived in Mercer until the family moved to Fort Fairfield in the middle 1930s.
She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Everett of Atlanta, GA, Elias Everett and Mary Bouchard of NC. Her children include Rick Williamson of Salt Lake City, UT, Mary Anne Cooper and Susan Lee Paoli of Reno, NV, Linda Jean Sanchez of Salmon, ID, and David Ricky Polete of Atlanta, GA; nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her family that she met along her voyage in life: Robert Langhans, Marilyn Langhans and Lisa Maria Soltis all of Reno, NV. Although not blood, they were a pivotal part of her life.
Annie was a true Pioneer and Gypsy at heart. Growing up in Maine gave her the passion for life and living every moment to its fullest in regards to taking chances and opportunities. Her career included working for the United States Air Force as a civilian in Presque Isle during WWII, Wall Street in New York in the 1940’s, Land Companies in the West to her final assignment with the USDA Forest Service in Reno, Nevada.
Adventure and travel were in Annie’s blood. When leaving Maine she lived for a short time in Greenland before moving to California. From California, Nevada, Maine, Massachusetts, Oregon, New Mexico, Arizona, Virginia and South Carolina, she never met a stranger and formed bonds with friends who were just “Family” that she met along the way.
As a young girl, she grew up picking potatoes in her father’s fields to becoming an incredible ice skater with prospects of going professional. Cats, dogs, horses and a myriad of other animals were her love. From taking in stray cats and kittens to making sure the possums and raccoons at her Condo in South Carolina were fed was her final mission. An avid reader, she could go through a paperback a day. Her quest for furthering her education and knowledge had her attending College in Arizona where she studied Anthropology and Archaeology. She was a lover of Country and Western Music and could be found either at the local dances in Sacramento CA or driving the deserts of Arizona after a rainstorm with the windows down and the music turned up.
Annie accomplished so much in life and she never let the word No stop her. She instilled in her children to not see bigotry or hatred, color or nationality. Her biggest gift to them all, her antics and love will be missed every day by the people that loved her and were a part of her life. “Loves” to her and may she rest in peace back next to her Father in Maine.
A small memorial service with family and friends will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the Mercer Cemetery in Maine at 2 p.m.
