Anderson embraces treasured mission to support bereaved moms
CARIBOU — Donating Through Grief, an effort begun by Caribou resident Amy Anderson, has been chosen as an honoree of The Bump Moms: Movers and Makers Awards.
This prestigious award by The Bump, a social media and web voice for millennial parents, honors and recognizes amazing achievements by moms. Whether it’s donating 92 gallons of breast milk to help feed premature babies, showcasing the beauty of postpartum bodies, founding charities that help underprivileged children and families, or creating a modern, innovative breast pump, the women honorees serve as an inspiration that action creates change.
In an awards luncheon co-hosted by Kristen Bell, a mom of two who is currently starring in the Showtime series “House of Lies,” the presentations took place in Los Angeles on May 3 to honor moms who are making a difference in the lives of others.
Anderson, a Fort Kent native who resides in Caribou with her husband and sons, ages 2 and 9, shared the following about her work’s inspiration. “In honor of my four angel babies, I was blessed to be able to donate 11,762 ounces of Bryson’s breast milk over an 8-month period. Furthermore, my Joey Skylor, Bryson, Bean and SweetPea have awakened within me an additional purpose as their Mom. It has become a highly treasured mission of mine to be able to connect with and support other bereaved moms.”
“After Bryson was stillborn, I unfortunately had to lead myself blindly through my body’s postpartum pains due to commonly held misconceptions, inexperience in the realm of lactation after loss, and societal views toward pregnancy and infant loss,” explained Anderson. Thanks to my journey, I have become passionate about advocating for the rights of bereaved mothers in addition to spreading awareness and education about baby loss grief, lactation after loss, and the option of donating through grief.
“I am also dedicated to changing the terminology of the federal law to be formally inclusive of all lactating women (apparently bereaved and surrogate mothers are overlooked in the current federal mandate). I will forever embrace my newfound purpose with great passion as an expression of a mother’s undying love.”
