A Washburn man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor Thursday evening with head injuries following a car crash off an embankment.
Joseph Nadeau, 69, of Washburn was driving from Presque Isle toward Washburn on Route 164 when he crossed the centerline, went down an embankment and struck a number of trees, according to Washburn Police Chief Roy Guidry.
Nadeau was the only occupant of the 2012 Chevy Impala, which was totalled in the crash. The Washburn police and fire departments, Crown Ambulance and a Maine state trooper responded and the Jaws of Life rescue equipment was used to remove Nadeau, Guidry said.
The driver was apparently wearing a seat belt and the car’s air bags deployed, and as of Friday morning Nadeau was “alive but in critical condition,” Guidry said.
