Houlton teachers earn national honor

HOULTON, Maine — Two Houlton educators were among Maine Career and Technical Education instructors and an administrator honored recently by the regional Association for Career and Technical Education. Of the 16 states in ACTE Region I, three of the six awards went to Maine leaders.

Dave Keaton of Houlton was named the ACTE Region I administrator of the year, while Alison Reece of Houlton, who teaches early childhood education, was honored as the Region I new teacher of the year.

Brandon Soards of Rockland, who teaches digital graphics, is the Region 1 teacher of the year.

The individuals were chosen based on their extraordinary contributions to CTE programs and their commitment to serving students. Regional winners will progress as national finalists in their categories, and national winners will be announced in November.

The ACTE is the nation’s largest not-for-profit association committed to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for successful careers. To learn more about Maine’s 27 CTE regions and centers, contact state director Meg Harvey at margaret.harvey@maine.gov.
