BANGOR — Joseph R. Jenkins, age 57, lost his battle to Pick’s Disease on June 2, 2016, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Houlton, the son of Phillip and Marie (Cyr) Jenkins.
Joe graduated from Houlton High School Class of 1977. Following graduation he attended Beal College in Bangor. In 1989 he met Avis Miller. They married in 1999 and would have celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in July. Joe spent most of his years working in sales. His proudest accomplishment was he started his own commercial cleaning business. Due to his illness he had to retire in 2009. Joe was a member of the BPOE 835 Elks Lodge of Houlton. He loved the outdoors, spending time at the “Farm” and summer time at the Millers’ camp. He loved golf and a good game of pool.
He was predeceased by his father, Phillip Jenkins, and his brother-in-law, John L. Miller. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Avis (Miller) Jenkins, are his daughter, Jaimee Jenkins of Bangor; son, Michael E. Jenkins and his wife, Molly of Maynard, MA; two grandchildren, Gabriel Jenkins and Annabeth Jenkins; one sister, Catherine Gourley and her husband Rick of Bucksport; two brothers, Michael Jenkins and his wife, Andrea of Houlton, John Jenkins and his wife, Kim of Houlton; sister-in-law, Paula Hughes of New York,; many nieces and nephews. Joe’s wife would like to thank their Advent Christian Church family for all your prayers, love, and support through this difficult journey.
Friends called from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 6 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service was held 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone officiating. Interment will be at the Saint Monica’s Cemetery, in Cary Plantation at a later date. The family invitited relatives and friends to have lunch and share memories at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the funeral.
