Eagles bow out in semis

Thwarts Bucksport team in the regional semifinals

The LCS/MSSM softball team had another excellent season, but it came to a close Saturday in the Class C North regional semifinals.

The Eagles’ offense was thwarted by Bucksport and pitcher Katelyn Saunders, who silenced the attack by allowing only two hits and collecting 11 strikeouts along the way in the 6-0 home victory.

Sarah Hemphill and Kassee Albert were the only LCS/MSSM players to collect hits, both singles.

Bucksport led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, but broke the game open by scoring twice in the fourth, once in the fifth and twice more in the sixth.

Delaney Rossignol was the losing pitcher. She allowed six hits and struck out four batters.

The Eagles, under second-year coach Jamie Albert, finished with a 13-3 overall record as the No. 3 seed entering the playoffs.

At home Thursday, LCS/MSSM had no trouble with No. 6 Orono in the quarterfinals, coming away with a 15-3 triumph.

Albert, Rossignol and Jackie Peers had two RBI apiece in the victory. On the mound, Rossignol was solid in allowing just two hits. She had eight strikeouts in the game.

The Fort Fairfield Tigers were beaten in the prelim round last Wednesday. Katahdin, ranked fourth, handed No. 13 FF a 7-0 defeat in Stacyville. Taylor Churchill had a double and a single to lead the Tiger offense.
