Houlton Ultimate League starts Tuesday

HOULTON, Maine — Some big changes are in the works for this year’s Houlton Ultimate Summer League.

This year, the league will be under the USA Ultimate guidelines. It doesn’t look different other than the fact that the group is now covered legally under the USA Ultimate insurance policies. Also, the league will have its own Summer League website through Maine Ultimate’s webpage.

“It is a change we are happy to make,” said Chris Rines, Ultimate Houlton president. “Our name is now publicized which makes it good for advertising. We’re hoping this will help our numbers grow for league participants.”

The projected start date for the HUSL season will be Tuesday, June 21. Anyone interested in learning more may contact Rines at christopher.rines@countypt.com or Secretary Julia Lunn at julia.lunn@rsu29.org.

“If you know you would like to join and be placed on a team you may sign up online through our new website www.maineultimate.org/houlton,” Rines said. “You may also follow the link provided on our Ultimate Houlton Facebook page. Make sure you subscribe to receive all of our updates.”

Due to becoming affiliated with USA Ultimate, the league is forced to have higher costs for signing up to be on a team. The cost to play includes your membership for the year, an official Maine Ultimate stamped disc, and a team league t-shirt.

The cost for USAUltimate Members is $17 for adults and $12 for youth, while the fee for non-members is $33.50 for adults and $28.50 for youth.

Those who think they will be playing every year, even if they move to another area to play on a Maine Ultimate team, there is an option to buy a lifetime membership to Maine Ultimate.
