Bloomer, Russell open new office

HOULTON — A corner office in downtown Houlton has been given new life as the home of Bloomer and Russell, P.A. law office.

Located on 72 Main St., Bloomer and Russell, P.A. is a full-service Maine law firm serving clients statewide. They can assist with selling property, starting a business, preparing a will, settling a family dispute, or filing a lawsuit.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday, June 9, to celebrate the grand opening of the new office.

According to Jeff Russell, Esq., one of the co-founders of the firm, the decision to expand in Houlton was not a difficult one. The company’s main office is located in Bangor, but attorneys from either location are available to assist customers.

“Houlton is not only where we want to be, it’s where we need to be,” Russell said. “There is a tremendous demand for an array of legal services.

With several attorneys in the Houlton area either retiring in recent years, or nearing retirement, the need for additional lawyers was viewed as an opportunity for expansion, Russell said.

“The demographics of the practice has changed,” he said. “The economy has changed. We are very well positioned to be able to continue to provide the high quality legal services that people in The County expect and deserve on par with what people in southern Maine are able to obtain. Generally, we can do things as well if not better and less expensively.”

Bloomer and Russell is the result of a merger of two smaller law firms. Kirk Bloomer is a longtime practitioner in the Bangor region noted for his experience and success in a number of different legal arenas.

Russell’s practice was more of a “boutique” practice that focused on the needs of elderly, estate planning, business succession and business law, as well as family real estate. Cases such as getting a family camp into the next generation without it having to be sold are another of Russell’s specialties.

The Houlton branch first began as a joint office venture with local attorney Forrest Barnes, but after three years, the company has grown so much that a bigger office was needed. Bloomer is based primarily in the Houlton location, while Russell is based in Bangor. Several additional attorneys are on staff and can be called upon for cases in The County.

Bloomer and Russell is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office is closed from noon to 1 p.m. each day for lunch. For more information, call 532-6501.
