Married vs. single— The married men and the single men contested on the diamond at Teague Park Tuesday afternoon, the first named club being victorious by a score of 8 to 4.
Cheese factory opens— The Caribou cheese factory opened Monday with 2,000 pounds of milk.

Wet roads create havoc— Automobiles who have succeeded in making the return trip from Bangor say that the roads are in a most deplorable condition due, of course, to the recent continued rains. One man states that he passed more than a dozen autos which were “ditched” waiting for a team to pull them back into the road.
75 Years Ago — June 19, 1941
Pupils graduate— The graduation exercises of eighth grade pupils of the New Sweden and Westmanland schools was held at the New Sweden Town Hall, Thursday evening, June 12. The topic for the program was “our state of Maine.” The valedictory speech was given by Russell Hemberg.
World’s largest salmon caught— The landing of a 19 pound, 11 ounce salmon at Long Lake Saturday, June 14 by Lucien Cyr of Madawaska has been judged by local sportsmen as the world record catch of a land-locked salmon. It is believed to be the world’s largest salmon caught and will be sent to Augusta to be mounted and will be displayed at the next Aroostook Sportsmen’s Show held in Caribou.
50 Years Ago — June 22, 1966
Last class at CHS— The present Caribou High School will graduate its last class of seniors this Friday evening in exercises at the General Carter State Armory. The Class of 1967 will complete its studies at the impressive new building on west Sweden street and will be graduated from there. The keynote speaker at the exercises Friday night will be Dr. Clifford Wieden of Aroostook State College.
No doubt about MSI— Maine Sugar Industries big $14.7 million beet sugar processing plant at Easton will definitely open this fall, Neil Kelly, general manager, told members of the Caribou Kiwanis Club when he addressed their luncheon meeting at Hotel Caribou Monday. October is still the date, he said, but early November would be a backup date.
25 Years Ago —June 19, 1991
New offices— The new Education Center offices on the second floor of building 6000 at Loring Air Force Base opened May 24, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Center and college representatives from the University of Maine and Northern Maine Technical College are now centrally located on the second floor, as well as an electronics lab, computer lab, video room and the University of Maine’s ITV network classes. The project began October 1989.
Candystripers complete training— A new class of candystripers completed training at Cary Medical Center this spring and received certificates in a ceremony May 7 at the hospital. Those who received the training include Jessica Lavoie, Beth Wood, Suzanne St. Pierre, Nichole Gagnon, Laura St. Pierre, Erin Ward, Juanita Huston, Lucinda Jordan, Angel Dickinson, Kristine Barton and Carol Soucie, Registered Nurse.
