Moonshot Summit takes giant leap toward a cure

In his final State of the Union address, President Obama tasked Vice President Biden with heading up a new national effort to end cancer as we know it.

On Wednesday, June 29, 2016, hundreds of leaders across the health, academic, private industry, and philanthropic sectors will join together with patients, survivors and advocates for a national summit. The Cancer Moonshot Summit will be the first time that individuals and organizations representing the entire cancer community and beyond — researchers, oncologists, care providers, philanthropists, data and tech experts, advocates, patients and survivors — will all convene under the national charge to double the rate of progress toward a cure.

Cary Medical Center’s Healthy You and Pink Aroostook programs will be co-hosts of a local, live stream of Vice President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot Summit event. We welcome interested parties and individuals from across Aroostook to attend as we facilitate updates and discussion of efforts to accelerate progress in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.

This event will provide a great opportunity to meet up with other supporters in our communities to share stories, generate new individual and organizational commitments, and get ready for the work ahead. Exhibitors will be on site to share the work that they are doing in our local communities to assist Aroostook County residents with cancer.

The information gathered during our local Summit viewing event will be reported back to the White House as will all of the information gathered at locally held Summit viewings around the country. The information reported from the satellite events will help guide the Vice President as he makes decisions on the direction that the Cancer Moonshot effort will take.

Help the voices of Aroostook County be heard in Washington, D.C. and join us from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center!
