Swimming lessons offered

The Presque Isle Recreation Center will be taking pre-paid registrations through Friday for the upcoming session of classes, set for June 27-Aug. 5, 2016. Lessons will be held at Gentile Hall at the University of Maine Presque Isle.

Classes include Parent/Toddler (6 months to 3 years), PRE 1-Ages 3-5; PRE 2 (for ages 3-5, comfortable in the water); PRE 3 (ages 3-5, swimming); Learn to Swim levels 3-6; and adapted lessons (for children with autism).

Hours to register at the William Haskell Community Center are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday Lessons have a $25 fee per participant. Non-residents will have an additional family fee of $50. For more information on class times, call 764-2545 or visit the website www.pirec.org.

NMKA holds Friday  kart races

The results from the Northern Maine Karting Association’s June 17 race event at Spud Speedway in Caribou are as follows:

Spud Speedway Kids Karts: Parker Bosse, Caribou; Kayden Haines, Caribou; and Avery Lloyd, New Denmark, New Brunswick

Haney Building Specialties Junior Champ Karts: first, Bryan Searles, Presque Isle; and second, Noah Coventry, Van Buren.

Aroostook Federal Savings and Loan Senior Champ Karts: first, Damian Theriault, Caribou: second, Tom Hale, Westmanland; and third, Marcel Bosse, Caribou.

The next race event will be July 8 at 6:30 p.m. and up to three new karts are expected to compete in the Senior Champ Karts race. Free tickets to the July race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Maine Indoor Karting passes will be given away. Grandstand admission is free and for the pits is $10.
