LIMESTONE, Maine — Parents, friends, and loved ones filled the Limestone Community School auditorium on June 10, 2016 as 20 seniors experienced their final moments as students and took their first steps into adulthood.
Valedictorian Jessica Tucker, while admitting that she was getting over a cold, gave a speech to her classmates during the ceremony in which she recounted memorable moments and spoke about the future that lies ahead.
“Our class has come so far from where we started,” said Tucker. “We have matured into young men and women who will make a positive impact in this world. I am so proud to be a part of this class.
“The path ahead of us is not going to be easy to travel. We will make mistakes and do things we shouldn’t, but in the words of Mr. Hancock ‘We are seniors and we won’t be told what we can and cannot do.’ We will learn from our mistakes and in the end we will become even stronger and wiser than we were. I see a great future ahead of my class and I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors. Thank you,” Tucker said.
Corin Howard, vice president of the Class of 2016, showed appreciation for all of those who have helped her along the path to graduation during her speech.
“Parents and family, you guys are the ones that have had to deal with us (good and bad times) since the moment we came into this world,” said Howard. “Thank you — we could not have done this without your support. Teachers and staff, I would first like to apologize for our moodiness and bad behavior at times. I am so sorry. Your patience with us during the good and bad times is greatly appreciated.”
Howard ended her speech by wishing her classmates luck as they enter the adult world.
“I wish you luck as we move forward into adulthood,” Howard said. “I hope each of you reaches the goals you want to achieve. Never let anyone tell you what you can and can not do.”
